Greenpeace has done some spectacular work embarrassing car companies, most notably back in 1996 with its SMILE car, (SMall, Intelligent, Light , Efficient) a revamping of the Renault Twingo cutting its fuel consumption by half, giving it a range of around 80 mpg. It was a production car not a prototype and of course conveniently ignored by the motor industry.

CRed(UK) - Community Carbon Reduction Project. Ambitious East Anglia University-based eco-initiative that has the backing of Govt's Chief Science Advisor Professor David King. Solar roofs for 600 UK churches is one aim. See Guardian report.

Friends of the Earth - one of the best environmental organisations on(bold & italics) the planet...BUT: FOE do want all private motoring to*remain expensive compared to public transport...so they tend to 'talk down' battery electric vehicles (1p a mile) and 'talk up' fuel cell vehicles (10 - 20p a mile). National Society For Clean Air (UK) - an increasingly vocal campaign group. Has issued many hard-hitting press releases recently.

Sustainable Schools/SUSchools(UK) - our favourite Schools website: colourful, engaging, relaxed, creative - and to our knowledge one of only two UK schools' eco-sites(See Eco Schools below) to mention - and recommend the use of - electric vehicles & e-bikes.
